Meet Kai
Feliciano,
a UNCW Honors Film Student, writer and director of this short film.
Born and raised in Hawai’i, she went to Wilmington,
North Carolina to study film. Her ambition: “to

& ONIPA'A:
My first objective for
this film is to make something entertaining -
who knows, one day I could make the feature of this battle, complete
with four thousand warrior extras and Jason Momoa as my lead! But, for
right now, I think that beginning a conversation about Hawaii that is
not defined by the West could be something equally engaging.
With this project, I
hope for three things:
1) To inspire people
to learn more about Hawaii and its history.
2) To make connections
and open doors in the Maui film community.
3) That the film is
successfully completed and well received.
So far, I've completed
the script and have begun looking for talent and
scouting locations on Maui. I've also begun reaching out to the
community to mine whatever resources I can. I have soft plans in place
for crew housing, catering/craft service, and equipment (of which I
will post updates as each item is locked), but that still leaves one
thing-
Transportation. The
film is scheduled to be shot over the winter break
in December 2010. While I am able to put together enough money to make
the movie, the one place I can't cover is the cost of plane tickets to
Hawaii - that's where you can make a difference.
We need to pay for
eight round-trip tickets for the crew and myself to
fly to Maui in December. We are planning to fly out from Raleigh, NC,
connecting in Phoenix, though I will continue to look for the cheapest
route possible.
